Space Jam is the highest grossing basketball movie of all time.
Space Jam, which you may remember as the movie with the most up to date website of all time grossed $230,418,342 globally.
The movie, released in 1996, is about Michael Jordan retiring from basketball to play baseball, and then deciding to return to basketball alongside Bugs Bunny and the other Looney Tunes characters. The second place movie is White Men Can’t Jump, which grossed only $90 million. White Men Can’t Jump is a 1992 comedy film starring Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes.
Behind that is 2005’s Coach Carter with Samuel L. Jackson and Channing Tatum, which earned $76 million and told the (very over dramatized) story of Ken Carter, basketball coach at Richmond High School, who made headlines in 1999 for benching his entire team due to poor grades despite the fact that they were undefeated.
Other movies on the top 10 list that you may remember include “Like Mike,” the 2002 film starring Lil’ Bow Wow (remember him?) who gets magical shoes that let him play basketball exceptionally well, 2008’s “Semi-Pro” with Woody Harrelson and Will Ferrell, and the original 1997 Air Bud.
