15 Baby Bump Facts You Won't Believe

Posted Jun 19, by Val Liarikos [+]

A 17 year old girl faked a pregnancy for six months for a social experiment with only a handful of people knowing it!

As her senior project, Gaby Rodriguez decided to do a social experiment. As an aspiring social worker, she decided to lie to everyone and fake a pregnancy and gather the reactions of everyone as her data. Only a few people including her mother, principle, and boyfriend knew that it was an experiment. Her siblings, teachers, friends, classmates, and her boyfriend’s parents were all convinced she was actually pregnant.

At the end of six months, she unveiled the truth during her presentation on stereotypes, rumours, and statistics in front of her entire high school. She removed her homemade mesh quilt pillow that had been her baby bump from under her shirt to show everyone she wasn’t really pregnant. She was scared to reveal the truth to everyone and how they would react.

Surprisingly she got cheers and a standing ovation. Her principle left a conference at 5:30 am to be at the school in time for the presentation and was very impressed with it.

There are a set of conjoined twins attached at the head that share brain tissue!

Krysta and Tatiana are conjoined twins attached at the head. Conjoined twins are very rare, but their situation is even more unique than most. The girls share neural tissue in their thalamus, which they share.

They are able to see through each other’s eyes and feel what the other one feels. When you tickle one sister the other one smiles and laughs. When an object is out of the line of sight, but not the other, the first girl can still reach for it and know where it is.

Most interestingly, though, is that they believe the girls have the ability to share thoughts or hear each others’ thoughts! Despite this, they have very separate personalities. Tatiana is laid back and Crysta is a bit of a bully.

Their parents knew at 21 weeks of pregnancy that the girls were conjoined at the head and never doubted that they wanted to see the pregnancy through to the end. The girls are completely mobile and run around together. However, it is impossible to separate them, though, due to the connecting brain tissue that they share.

An English woman famously convinced doctors that she was giving birth to rabbits.

Back in 1726, Mary Toft was responsible for a hoax that created a lot of controversy within the medical profession. She claimed to give birth to rabbits. It seems absurd now, but part of what made her story so convincing was that she did actually show signs of pregnancy, and even labor pains. Toft had been pregnant, and while her actual baby miscarried, she became so obsessed with rabbits that she started telling people that she was giving birth to them.

Several skeptical doctors offered to examine her to see if she indeed was giving birth to rabbits. Toft then proceeded to fool the doctors by faking going into labor and “giving birth” to animals. Unbeknown to the doctors, she had been putting animal parts inside of her. This included limbs, heads and internal organs, not just of rabbits, but also cats and even pigs. By the time she was caught trying to pass off a pig’s bladder as part of a rabbit, investigators got involved. A man confessed to supplying her with rabbits, and Toft was finally busted on fraud charges.

You can read her whole story here.

A 92-year-old woman was pregnant for sixty years.

In 2009, a 92-year-old Chinese woman named Huang Yijun delivered a child that she had been carrying for over half a century! The woman went to the hospital complaining of a stomachache, but doctors soon realized that she was carrying what is called a lithopedion, or stone pregnancy.

This phenomenon begins as an ectopic pregnancy, or one in which the fertilized egg gets stuck and begins developing somewhere before its intended place in the uterus! The unborn fetus eventually calcifies and remains in its mother's womb. Lithopedions typically remain in their mother's womb for an average of 22 years - Huang Yijun carried her child for almost triple that length of time!

The full story.

The FBI ran such a strong smear campaign against actress Jean Seberg, that she delivered a stillborn!

Seberg hit stardom when she was chosen from 3,000 women at age 17 to star as Joan of Arc in Saint Joan. In the final scene when Joan is burned at the stake, Seberg actually took a fireball to the face on camera. It made the scene one of the most realistic and disturbing death scenes caught on camera. By 1960, Seberg was a cultural icon in France starring in major films and even influencing Parisian style.

She was very public in her support for the anti-racist group the Black Panthers along with Jane Fonda. Seberg had such influence in Europe, that FBI director J. Edgar Hoover took note and considered her a genuine liability. In 1970, when she was seven months pregnant with her husband’s child, the FBI leaked a face letter insinuating that a Black Panther actually fathered her unborn child.

Seberg was so distraught over the matter that she gave birth early to a stillborn. The next day, she shocked journalists with calling a press conference and presented them with her dead, white child! It put an end to the rumors, but the FBI continued to pursue Seberg until she moved to Paris again. She struggled the rest of her life with depression and died at the age of 40 in Paris.

Michelle Duggar has spent almost 15 years of her life pregnant.

Michelle Duggar, from the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, is 45 and has been pregnant 21 times. If you do that math, it would be 15 years and 9 months of pregnancy. If you know much about the Duggars, though, you know things didn’t turn out that way.

The Duggars have had two miscarriages and one premature baby, which amounts to a little bit over 14 years of pregnancy- still almost a third of her life. Why so many kids? Basically it’s because of the couple’s decision to embrace the Christian “Quiverfull” idea of promoting procreation and seeing children as gifts from God.

Their decision to follow the movement was spurred by both their faith and their negative experience with birth control, which may have led to their first miscarriage.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are the heads of a very conservative Christian family. The two met when Jim Bob was visiting Michelle after she had recently become a Christian, and they have been married for 28 years. The family practice a very fundamentalist way of life, including viewing only wholesome family entertainment, keeping modest appearances, homeschooling, and practicing courting instead of dating.

Though it might seem like 19 kids and such a devotion-requiring lifestyle would make for a pretty exhausted parent, Michelle Duggar was actually named Mother of the Year in 2004. Regardless of what your feelings are on the fundamentalist Christian lifestyle, I think we can all agree that Michelle Duggar’s current life is a step above what Nadya Suleman “the Octomom” is doing these days

After suffering a knife wound to the stomach while performing fellatio, a teenager became pregnant despite being born without a vagina.

Doctors in Lesotho were puzzled when they discovered that a 15 year old patient going into labor did not have a vagina. The girl suffered from a rare birth defect called Mullerian agenesis. They found out that she conceived her child when a jealous ex stabbed her after performing fellatio on her new boyfriend. Apparently, she got stabbed while on an empty stomach, so she did not have enough gastric acids to kill all the sperm, and the stab wounds opened up a path to her uterus, where she got impregnated. Sperm can last a long time, so be careful.

A hospital in China threw away a live baby

On October 26, 2011 a Chinese woman who was 8 months pregnant was rushed to a hospital with complications. She had to have an emergency birth. The baby was said to not be breathing and his skin was purple. The medical team diagnosed the baby as a stillborn and disposed of the baby without going through proper procedures.

Thirty minutes after the baby was put in a yellow bag, the mother’s sister-in-law asked to see the body. When she opened the bag, she saw the baby’s hands and feet moving. The chest was moving and air bubbles were coming from the mouth.

It was a boy, which was a surprise since the doctors had told them it was a girl to soften the blow. The baby was rushed to ICU and currently remains stable.

Her family brought her to see a doctor because they beleived she had some sort of tumor growing in her stomach.  The family was shocked to find out that she was actually pregnant.

Her son, who was born a healthy 6 lb baby, was raised by Lina's parents.  It was not until he was 10 that he found that Lina was actually his mother, not his sister as he had been told.

There is no evidence or documentation as to who the father of Lina's son was.  Lina went on to marry and then have second child when she was 33.

Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester was born while her mom was serving a jail sentence.

Both Leighton's mother Connie and father Doug were sent to federal prison for smuggling drugs while Connie was pregnant. We hate to disappoint, but unfortunately this does not mean that Meester was actually born IN prison. Her mother was allowed to give birth to her daughter in a halfway home, but was requred to return and finish her sentence. This meant that Leighton spent the first several months of her life in the care of another relative.

Queen Anne was pregnant 18 different times, but died childless.

She had 13 miscarriages. 4 of her children died before reaching the age of 2. One of her children was able to survive beyond infancy. William, Duke of Gloucester, died when he was 11.

Her difficulty with pregnancies may have been the result of an undiagnosed case of lupus. (Even though Dr. House would probably disagree.)

This Mexican woman is the only known person to have ever successfully performed a C-Section on herself

C-sections are used when natural childbirth is thought to be too risky. The woman is given anesthesia because of how enormous the C-section cut is and how painful it would be otherwise. Enter Ines Ramírez Perez: she is a peasant who lives in rural Mexico. With no medical training at all, she performed a C-section on herself and miraculously performed it successfully, keeping both her and her son alive.

In March of 2000, she had experienced 12 hours of continual pain. She then drank 3 small glasses of hard liquor and used a kitchen knife to open her abdomen. She made a 6.7in vertical incision to the right of her navel. For comparison, a standard C-section cut is 3.9 inches and horizontal below the navel.

She spent an hour operating herself and finally found her uterus. She took her baby boy out, cut the umbilical cord and passed out. She used clothes to bandage her uterus after regaining consciousness and sent for help. She needed some surgery because she damaged her intestines.

When asked why she did it, she said that she couldn't stand the pain and she decided if her baby was going to die, she was going to die too. However, she said she was certain God would save their lives.

The largest number of children ever born to one woman was 69!

The largest number of children born to one woman is recorded at 69.

More info: According to the Guiness Book of World Records, from 1725-1765, a Russian peasant woman gave birth 27 times to 16 sets of twins, 7 sets of triplets, and 4 sets of quadruplets.

Twins separated at birth shared eerily similar lives. Read on and be spooked

Twins Jim were identical twins born in 1940 and separated shortly after birth exemplify the incredible power of nature and being a twin. They were separated until 1979 when they were 39 years old and became part of the extensive study of twins called Minnesota Twin Family Study, section Reared Twins Apart.

Their parallel lives were widely publicized. Here’s a breakdown of how similar their lives really were:

Both Jims were 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, which isn’t terribly surprising for being identical twins.

They both had a dog and named it Toy.

Both Jims married women named Linda and then divorced them to both marry women named Betty.

Each had a son and named them James.

They liked to leave messages for their wives around their homes and both drove pale blue Chevrolets.

They both smoked Salems and were part-time sheriffs who drank Miller Lite.

They were prone to migraines and were chronic nail biters.

Mark Twain's birth and death both happened on days in which Haley's Comet could be seen.

What's interesting is that he even foretold of this happening, quoted as saying, "I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it." Sure enough, the next year, he died of a heart attack on April 21, 1910, when the comet was visible.

Halley's comet has been observed for centuries now. Its first appearance was recorded as early as the 200s BC. It is visible from Earth around every 75 years. It was last seen in February 1986, so the next predicted date for it to be visible is July 2061.
