The town is called High Wycombe and the “weighing of the Mayor,” has become a tradition. The ceremony began in 1678 and has continued on to this day. The reason for this? Citizens were angry because they believed public officials were stealing money they didn’t deserve and getting fat off of it.

Thus, they decided to publicly weigh the mayor at the end of their term to ensure they weren’t stealing any money form hard working citizens. Even today, once the mayor is weighed the Town Crier will announce “And no more!” if the Mayor has not gained weight or “And some more!” if they have, at which point the public boos their mayor!
