You have 10 times more bacteria living on you than they you have human cells!
Some of the bacteria are good, but others are harmful and may be the cause of digestive disorders and skin and gum disease.
Not all bacteria is bad though. Some bacteria do aid the human body. Microbiologists have been aware of the bacteria for a long time, called microbiomes, but until recently the technology didn’t exist to further examine, identify, and categorize all the different bacteria found in and on humans.
It’s kind of creepy to think of all the bacteria crawling around on us, but microbiologists are optimistic that the continual study and analysis of the bacteria will help us better our health and wellness. It could help us understand and prevent some disorders and diseases, especially since there is evidence that suggests the bacteria can even effect obesity, which plagues the U.S.
