The first tweet on Twitter read “just setting up my twttr”!

This was an automated tweet sent by co-founder Jack Dorsey’s account on March 21, 2006. That’s not a typo either - back in the site’s infancy, the social network was called “Twttr”. Dorsey and his team of programmers had been working for eight days straight to prepare the network for its first non-automated tweet. Ten minutes after this original tweet was sent, Dorsey himself sent the first human tweet, “inviting coworkers”. Since that time, the site has grown from a handful of tech nerds tweeting a few times to a team of 40 programmers handling 140 million global tweets on a daily basis!
