A town in Georgia banned yoga in 1990.

A yoga class sponsored by the town of Yoccoa was canceled after a group of fundamentalist Christians protested that the practice led to devil worship! The protesters claimed that town sponsorship of the practice violated the separation of church and state.

Fortunately, a few days later Yoccoa city officials reconvened and decided that yoga would not be banned altogether, but that it also would not be sponsored by the local government. Both sides of the debate were satisfied with the compromise.
