The United States is NOT the world's fattest country.

This dubious honor instead goes to the Pacific island nation of Kiribati which has had much trouble with obesity in modern times - 81.5% of its population is overweight! This is mostly due to the availability of inexpensive processed foods from the West such as Spam and fatty sheep scraps called mutton flaps. These less healthy alternatives are sold at lower prices than the native fare, so Kiribatian cuisine can rarely compete.

Unsurprisingly, the fattest territory is an unincorporated territory of the United States - American Samoa. Much like Kiribati, this nation has had weight issues due to readily accessible processed foods from the west. However, in terms of sheer bulk, American Samoa takes the cake (LITERALLY), with 93.5% of its citizens tipping the scales above a healthy weight!
