Do you know what the Ms in M&Ms stand for?
M&Ms are one of the world's most popular milk chocolate candies. Forrest Mars, Sr. Son of the founder of the Mars candy company got the idea for them during the Spanish Civil War.
He saw soldiers eating chocolate pellets with a hard shell of tempered shell that prevented the candy from melting.
He brought the idea stateside in 1941 and sold 20% of the product to Bruce Murrie, the son of the president of the Hershey's Chocolate company.
At the time, chocolate was rationed in the US and Hershey controlled it. M&M stand for Mars & Murrie, the two owners of the product.
The practicality of the candy made it popular with soldiers, who could take it to war. The product soon became a hit and the rest is history.
