Finally, the mystery of the pixelated portrait (see album cover on the right) has been solved. “Silver and Gold” is the 25th studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, released in 2010. The album is a nostalgic one; Young looks back over his old life and reflects on it with his new wisdom.
Many of the songs were 10-20 years in the making; he’d started working on the album in 1990, and the song “Silver and Gold” in 1981. All this reflection and effort was represented by a photograph taken with a Game Boy Camera.
The use of the Game Boy Camera may be an allusion to boyhood or it could have been the only thing lying around. Regardless, the album was a nominee for Roots + Traditional Album of the Year-Solo at the 2001 Juno Awards.
