Two of Pocahontas' descendants have become first lady!

Pocahontas was born Matoaka and was later called Rebecca Rolfe. In 1614, she married John Rolfe, a tobacco farmer, and gave birth to Thomas Rolfe in 1615. The marriage between John and Pocahontas was the first recorded interracial marriage in American history. Soon after having Thomas, John and Pocahontas left for England. It was upon their return that to Virginia that she became gravely ill and died at the age of 22.

Her only child, Thomas, gave Pocahontas many descendants. Descendants of many First Families of Virginia trace their roots to Pocahontas and Chief Powhatan, including Edith Bolling Galt Wilson, wife of Woodrow Wilson; George Wythe Randolph; Admiral Richard Byrd; Virginia Governor Harry Flood Byrd; fashion-designer and socialite Pauline de Rothschild; former First Lady Nancy Reagan; actor Glenn Strange; and astronomer and mathematician Percival Lowell. Her "blood" was introduced to the Randolph family of Virginia via the marriage of her great-great-granddaughter, Jane Bolling, to Richard Randolph.
