Crucifixion is still a form of death penalty in Sudan and Iran

Although rarely used, the penalty is still in the books as a possibility for certain crimes. In Iran, it's actually not applied in practice, even though it's included in the books as an option. Sudan's Shari'a laws also include crucifixion as a form of penalty, and they have caused controversy over the way they apply it.

In 2002, Sudan actually sentenced 88 people for execution, and Amnesty international speculated that they could be executed by hanging or crucifixion.
