Ronald Reagan is one of the most renowned presidents of modern times and it is common knowledge that he was originally an actor and while he did relatively well in Hollywood, he was once ironically denied a role as a president because the producers didn’t think he, “had that presidential look,” and would not make the part believable.
The play was called “The Best Man,” and it premiered in 1960 and was written by Gore Vidal. It centers around a presidential election and juxtaposes one honest candidate against an unscrupulous shyster. The play did well winning six Tony Awards including best play and even went on to become a film in 1964.
Who knows how history would have turned out, however, if Reagan had been given the part. If only he could have been more presidential.
