Freddie Mercury recorded “The Show Must Go On” in one take!

Gerard Way called Mercury “the most inspirational frontman of all time.” Brian May was unsure that Mercury could sing the song. He could barely walk at the time and his health was steadily declining.

May told Mercury that he wasn’t sure he could sing the song due to his health. Mercury took a shot of vodka and said “I’ll F***ing do it, darling!” Then he went into the studio and knocked it out in one take. The recorded date of the song was in 1990.

Mercury died of bronchopneumonia brought on by AIDS on November 24, 1991. He was influenced by Axl Rose, Joe Elliot, and George Michael. Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara and was a Parsi born in Zanzibar, near Tanzania. He grew up there and in India until his mid-teens. He was lead singer for Queen, but he also led a solo career and produced for some other artists.
