Dan Harmon, creator of Community, based the series off of his real-life experiences at Glendale Community College!
Community has been on NBC for three seasons since 2009. The series is based off of the real-life experiences of the show’s creator, Dan Harmon. In an attempt to save is relationship with then-girlfriend, Harmon enrolled in Glendale Community College outside of Los Angeles with his girlfriend. They took Spanish class together.
He got involved in a study group and somehow he got very connected with the group even though they all had nothing in common. With his experience at Glendale Community College in mind, he wrote Community, basing the main character on himself.
Like the character, Jeff, Harmon was self-centered and independent to the extreme before he realized the value of connecting with other people. Community is set in the fictional town of Greendale, Colorado. The show heavily uses meta-humor and pop culture references. It often parodies film and TV clichés and tropes. It is returning for a fourth season this year with thirteen episodes.
